In collaboration with Microsoft (expert in software development), yesterday, the Ministry of Education has given xo laptops to school children belonging to Groupe Scolaire Byumba Inyange (APEK Byumba Inyange).
According to the Minister of State in charge of primary and secondary schools Dr. Mathias Harebamungu (who was the main guest), more than 700 laptops that were given to primary school of Byumba Inyange according to the vision of His Excellence President Paul Kagame whose aim is to enable Rwandan children to experience information technology from their earlier age.
Dr. Mathias said also that the project known as One Laptop Per Child has to reach the rural areas since it is not only designed for urban area.
To show their enthusiasm, the school teachers representative said : « We believe that our children are going to get a better education using current ICT technologies », he also added that because of ICT based education, a rwandan child will be competitive to the international job market.
In the same angle, the school teachers’ representative mentioned that since the basic patrimony of Rwanda is its population, therefore, the same people must have worth education and enough knowledge enabling them to earn life and contribute to Rwanda’s effort of development.
Mr. David Ochanda, Microsoft representative into this ceremony, explained that Byumba Inyange Primary School is the Pilot School in Rwanda and in Africa that its society has supported. Mr. Ochanda has also said that the act above cited will make easier the teachings and education will be improved as well.
On the issue of trainings Mr. Richard Niyonkuru, the country OLPC Coordinator noted that the Regional ICT Training and Research Center at Kigali Institute of Science and Technology in collaboration with Microsoft will keep providing trainings and other skills needed in ICT based education for both school children and teacher of Byumba Inyange Primary School. |
